Twitter Bug exposes iOS users location details to its business partner

All those using the Twitter mobile app on their Apple iOS phones and who had 2-3 accounts on the said social media platform were at the risk of their location data being shared with a business partner of the world’s second social media platform- all without the consent of users.

Actually, it was a bug effect which led to the leak of location data to the Twitter partner which was later identified and fixed by the digital tech giant just within 24 hours.

Highly placed sources say that the affected users were only those who used one Twitter account on iOS and had various accounts on the same platform.

A media update released by Twitter on Monday suggests that the location data( Zipcode at city level) was shared on an accidental note and this includes data of those accounts which were never accessed from the mobile device but were linked to the same profile.

The business partner with whom the data share took place was not disclosed by Twitter. But the American social networking service assured that its partner has deleted all the accidentally accumulated info stored on its servers due to the bug issue.

Twitter released a clarification early today on this note stating that the leaked data could never have determined an address or map a user location in a precise way. All those impacted will be informed about their information leak shortly by email and Twitter is urging them to review their privacy settings to make sure that the company has access to data which the user is intending.

Coming to other news which Twitter wants to share with its users, the company has decided to unlock all the accounts which were previously locked due to the ‘Underage’ clause under the latest European GDPR Laws. That means all those whose Twitter accounts were locked last year- after the new GDPR laws, kicked-in can restart using the platform to share their lives.
