As part of a two-month operation, police officers from New Delhi (India) arrested 63 operators of 26 fraudulent call centers posing as technical support for Microsoft, Google, Apple and other large companies. According to Microsoft, in October, police conducted searches at 10 call centers and arrested 24 people. This week searches were conducted in another 16 call centers, culminating in the arrest of 39 people.

Microsoft employees received from users from 15 different countries about 7 thousand complaints related to the activities of the call centers closed this week. According to the complaints, the victims paid fraudsters from $ 100 to $ 500 for unnecessary services and products.

The grounds for the searches were filed by Microsoft official complaint about the activities of fake call centers. During the search, important evidence was seized, including call recordings and correspondence of “technical support” staff with clients in real time.

In the past two decades, fraudsters who pretend to be tech support have caused a real headache for Windows users.
