Bitcoin Democrats declared bitcoin the national currency of Sweden
Unknown hacked the Twitter page of the Social Democratic Party of Sweden and published a number of fake news.
The beginning of this week was marked for Sweden by the avalanche of "news" in the world of cryptocurrency, and one of the main ones was the introduction of bitcoin as a national currency. The corresponding message was posted on April 15 on the page of the Social Democratic Party of Sweden on Twitter.
According to the Swedish television company Sveriges Television AB, unknown attackers broke into the party’s Twitter page and published a number of fake news on its behalf. "We canceled the Swedish krona and replaced it with bitcoin, time to buy!", – read one of the messages.
Burglars also changed the account name from Socialdemokraterna (Social Democrats) to Bitcoindemokraterna (Bitcoin Democrats). Moreover, they “edited” the party logo, adding a bitcoin icon to it.
In addition to introducing bitcoin as a national currency, attackers also reported on the legalization of marijuana in the country.
The motives of the attackers could not be established, however, according to the police, it is unlikely that the account was hacked for the purpose of fraud. Most likely, in this way the burglars decided to just have some fun. The incident did not have any effect on the bitcoin course.
Currently, account control is returned to the rightful owners, and all fake messages have been removed.
